Before
the start of every new academic year the College determines, on the basis
of a recommendation from the Academic Board, the number of students to be
admitted to the various faculties. These are directly related to quality
assurance requirements especially the constraints set by planning and
resources. Correspondence and all application papers are to be directed to the Student Admissions Department at the College since it is the body responsible for this process. The Student Admissions Department maintains important communication channels between the student and other College functions such as the Student Advisory Service and the staff in the Teaching Faculties |

It
is the College Policy that no unnecessary barriers are placed in the way
of students seeking entry to the College.
The main criteria is that students are able to benefit from their
course of Study and are judged to have the ability to meet the demands
of their course. To
satisfy admission requirements for entry to the College: Applicants should possess a Secondary School completion certificate or its equivalent. For a number of reasons there will be students who do not possess traditional entry requirements; experience will be taken into account for more mature students and a decision made on the basis of the initial interview process. The majority of students will be expected to follow these entry guidelines: ·
a secondary school leaving certificate (Science Stream) for
admission to all Faculties. · a secondary school leaving certificate (Arts Stream) for admission to the Faculties of Management & Business Administration, Information Technology. |

English
is the language of instruction and therefore all applicants must sit
for a
diagnostic assessment test in English prior to final acceptance for
commencement of study. Students will be encouraged to enroll in the
subjects most suited to their particular subject background and
attainment in English.
If the result of the Placement Test falls below the required
level, students will enroll in the University Foundation Programme. |

The decision to admit an applicant to the College is valid for a particular Academic Year, so that if the prospective student cannot enroll in the semester in question, he/she is still entitled to postpone the start of his/her study for three consecutive semesters at the most, provided that an application to this effect is submitted to the Student Admissions Department. |

Transfer from Other Educational Establishments |

A student who wishes to transfer from a recognized University or College to Muscat College should submit an application to the Student Admissions Department. The decision to grant his/her transfer request will be made by the College in accordance with the following conditions which represent the transfer criteria:

Transfer
from one specialization to another within the College proceeds
according to the following criteria: A
student may transfer from an existing specialization to another within
Muscat college during the introductory weeks of the semester (up to
week three of the first semester of the first University year -HNC
year-) through the Student Admissions Department. Moreover, it is
possible to transfer to another specialisation at the beginning of any
semester during the “University Foundation Programme” in
accordance with the following conditions: 1. Satisfaction of the admission requirements for the specialization to which transfer is requested. 2.
Availability of a vacancy in the specialization to which
transfer is requested. 3. Approval of the Faculty to and from which transfer is requested. 4. Filling the transfer form which is available at the Admission and Registration office. In
general, students can transfer at any stage of their Higher National
programme of study, however, Unit Credits from the first
specialisation may be lost if these do not form part of the new
course. Because of the requirement to achieve specific course elements within each HNC or HND course, it is not possible to transfer from ‘core’ units but there is flexibility within ‘option’ subjects. These require to be discussed with the Faculty concerned. |
